In today's world there is much compromise where it is believed that assisted suicide could or could not be socially acceptable. Practices such as euthanasia creates a discomfort in the field of medicine alone, but in specific cases where cures are claimed to be "rare", it's is almost looked upon as an acceptable practice in today's society. Thus we go into the topic of assisted suicide and its traits to define the overall controversy around it.
In
some countries assisted suicide is not yet legal but in some the vote for
legalizing assisted suicide has already passed. Statistics show that 85% of
people in Ontario are for assisted suicide and the numbers will just get
higher. Doctors have argued that it’s not morally right to let someone die
because they want to, but in some cases doctors don’t have a word in what is moral
and what’s not. Patience that want to die are patience that suffer for long
periods of time and have enough of the ache of having to live like that. Do you
believe that this is the right thing to do? In this blog I will explain what
assisted suicide and euthanasia is so that it’s easier for people to answer the
question.
The
difference between euthanasia and assisted suicide is that you’re purposely
ending a person’s life so that the person will not suffer. As for assisted
suicide you’re assisting in encouraging a person to end their life.
Euthanasia
can be classified as:
- Passive euthanasia-when death is caused by not giving treatment
- Active euthanasia- when someone gets involved in ending one's life
- Voluntary euthanasia- when someone gives consent to help them die
- Non-voluntary euthanasia- when a person is unconscious to give consent
- Involuntary euthanasia- when someone is killed against their own will
Assisted
Suicide being a very sensitive topic has led me to the conclusion that aiding
it should be illegal. Supporting this practice is both in humane and hinders
the very basics of a balanced society. In regards to my main points it should
be socially unacceptable and proper injunction should be in order to refrain
this specific act.
